" I Won't Go Back," Luke 13: 31-35, Pastor Richard Strode
As we embrace living as spiritually "born again" Christians, we are unable to imagine any circumstances that would drive us to exchange our Christ-changed lives for our old sin-filled lives. Just as we have "moved on up" to the quality of life that we now enjoy, none of us yearn for the "good old days" when life was a struggle. Jesus could have returned to Heaven, bypassed the Cross and avoided a painful death to redeem us from sin's captivity. Jesus didn't go back to heaven without fulfilling His commitment to atone for our sins. We should neither go back to our old ways nor listen to those who say we have done enough as Christians and earned our rest. Wisely consider our worth to the Lord. If the Lord thought our salvation was worth the cost of His death, why would we squander the opportunity to live eternally with Him? Scripture reminds us that He loved us while we were yet sinners (Romans 5:8). We must not turn our backs on such a great love; instead, we must find our own reasons to love Him as He loves us.
