" Modernize," John 21: 7-20, Pastor Marvin G Spence
As we continue our faith journey, there will be times when we are tempted to retreat from our Christian calling and return to our old ways because it seems easier, much like the disciples in this scripture. "This is How We Do It" may not lead us to spiritual maturity but to spiritual stagnation. The disciples retreated from their calling as disciples and returned to secular profession of fishing. It was only when they cast their nets in the direction Jesus told them, that the disciples reaped a windfall of fish. This harvest addressed their worries about meeting their material needs but it was their response to Jesus' call to eat and commune with Him that updated, modernized their worship of Him. We must ask ourselves: What are we fishing for? Financial Security? Notable Achievements? Status, etc.? If we correctly answer Jesus' call upon our lives, then we gain the opportunity to embrace Jesus once again as Lord and Savior. Our response can be just as appropriate, enthusiastic as the disciples when they came back to Jesus. Jesus' plan for eternal life with Him begins with our acknowledgment and acceptance of His call upon our lives. Don't live in the past, live in the present for a future with the Lord in the place He has prepared for us.
